The design intent was to create a new event space for Bandon. The new event centre accommodates a theatre/performance space, workshops, classrooms and multifunctional event space as well as a cafe/bar and market space just outside the building.
The design process focused on negative space studies of the existing building to create an abstract concept for the new space. These studies helped define the concept and create forms and movements through the buildings which were the starting points and buildings blocks of the design process. Working with these studies, forms and functions began to come through in the design. These forms were primarily inspired by the existing building through developing the negative space studies, creating an exciting and unique design concept originating from the building itself.
Allmans Distillery Adaptation, Bandon
This proposal suggests that Allmans Distillery is repurposed a community event space. This community space will allow users of all ages to attend shows, concerts and performances as well as classes and workshops within the building.
These events will allow the community to get together and engage with each other. Along with a café/bar and market at the front and side of the building for use by the building occupants and general public. The café/bar and market creates a community space where people can meet up, work or relax while attending events taking place in the building or while just passing through the area.
